    Discover Marine Habitats

    2 days, 3 dives, Age 15+

Short on time, but want to learn? Discover Marine Habitats is a 2 day course designed to introduce you to a variety of marine environments that different fish species inhabit. The aim of this course is to help you to distinguish between marine habitats easily, and to understand the reason why different fish species have evolved to fit each environment.

    What is Discover Marine Habitats?

The sea offers a huge variety of different environments. Coral reefs are one of the most complex and diverse, and support entire eco-systems, but there are other environments, such as caves, midwater, surface or bottom.

Each environment differs in depth, substrate and other environmental factors. Inhabitants have evolved to become typical for each niche and maximise their exploitation of the unique benefits their chosen environment has to offer.

We ask which key factors determine the type of habitat and therefore the local community of life? We look at the reasons behind why Moray Eels always live on the reef whilst Whale Sharks and Tuna prefer to stay in midwater, and why ocean-swimming fish like to visit coral reefs.

    What will I learn?

The 2-day mini-course introduces you to a variety of different marine environments and we look at fish species that have chosen to inhabit each type of environment.

In-water activities are encouraged to further cement your learning. You’ll participate in experiments and excursions to learn about Marine Habitats and gain hands-on experience with real marine animals. We’ll take you to some of the best dive-sites in Thailand, where you’ll observe and interact with a huge variety of marine species.

The course includes a day learning about marine habitats and put this into practice with 2 dives to some of the most interesting and diverse dive-sites in Thailand.
